Our Mission
World-Soul Center helps people from all spiritual backgrounds — including religious traditions and those who are spiritual but not religious — rediscover their connection to a living, meaningful world. Through education, dialogue, and community building, we explore how ancient and contemporary wisdom traditions understand the world as ensouled, and what this means for how we live today.
What We Believe
At the heart of our work is a simple but profound insight: humans have souls — whether understood literally or metaphorically — and these souls are related to a larger world-soul. This relationship is foundational to our equality and our connection to both other people and all living beings.
We believe that recognizing this connection can:
- Ground human equality in something deeper than social contracts or laws
- Extend our circle of moral concern to include all living beings
- Heal the isolation and meaninglessness many people feel in modern life
- Transform how we relate to nature, to each other, and to ourselves
Our Approach
Inclusive and Open
We welcome seekers from all backgrounds. Whether you come from a specific religious tradition, consider yourself spiritual but not religious, or are simply curious about these ideas, there's a place for you here. The world-soul belongs to everyone.
Rooted in Wisdom Traditions
We draw on ancient philosophical lineages — from Plato's anima mundi through Renaissance thinkers like Marsilio Ficino to contemporary voices like James Hillman and Patrick Harpur. We also honor diverse spiritual traditions that recognize the sacred aliveness of the world, including Hindu, Buddhist, Indigenous, and other wisdom paths.
Grounded in Experience
Philosophy and theology matter, but they're not the whole story. We focus on how these ideas connect to lived experience. How do you actually encounter the world-soul? What does it feel like? How does it change the way you move through your days? These questions guide our exploration.
What We Offer
Educational Resources
Articles, essays, and reflections that make world-soul concepts accessible and relevant. We translate ancient wisdom into contemporary language and explore what it means for how we live today.
Diverse Perspectives
Resources organized by philosophical, religious, and experiential perspectives. Whether you approach the world-soul through Platonic philosophy, Hindu concepts of Brahman, depth psychology, or direct encounter with nature, you'll find pathways that speak to you.
Community Connection
Spaces to connect with others on this journey. Share your experiences, ask questions, contribute your own reflections, and discover a community of people who understand that the world is more alive than we've been taught.
Who This Serves
World-Soul Center is for anyone who:
- Senses that the world is alive and meaningful in ways that go beyond what mainstream culture acknowledges
- Feels drawn to nature, beauty, and connection as pathways to something larger
- Wants to understand the philosophical and spiritual roots of these intuitions
- Seeks community with others exploring similar questions
- Longs for a way of being in the world that honors both equality and interconnection
Why This Matters Now
We live in a time of profound disconnection. From each other, from nature, from any sense of larger meaning. Many of us feel isolated, anxious, and uncertain about our place in the world.
At the same time, we face ecological crises that demand we recognize our kinship with all living beings. We need new ways — or rather, ancient ways remembered — of understanding our relationship to the world.
The concept of the world-soul offers both healing and guidance. It reminds us that we're not alone, that we belong to something larger, and that all beings deserve respect because they participate in the same sacred aliveness.
This isn't just philosophy. It's a way of being in the world that can change everything — from how we treat the natural world to how we see each other to how we understand our own lives.
